ENG: The Marina Collection begins here with 'Battigia', a vase that draws its name from the Italian word for the shoreline—the line where the sea longs to become land. This piece is a reflection of that delicate meeting point, where water and sand intertwine in a timeless dance. At the top, I’ve shaped the neck to resemble a bottle, its surface etched with fine grooves that flow downwards. Glazed in a rich, translucent green, these lines recall the rippling patterns of shallow water near the shore, catching light just as the sea does on a calm, sunny day. The lower half tells a different story. After the first firing, I applied white refractory clay to give it a textured, almost sandy feel—rough yet inviting, like the weathered rocks and cliffs that line our beaches. The transition between the smooth, glossy glaze and the rugged clay mirrors the natural meeting of land and sea that inspired this creation. Crafted from red clay on my wheel and fired twice for durability, this vase reflects nature’s rhythms—slow, deliberate, and patient. Battigia is my tribute to Sardinia’s coastline and marks the beginning of Marina, a collection that captures the stories of our island’s shores. Quest’opera è una riflessione su quel delicato punto d’incontro, dove acqua e sabbia si intrecciano in una danza senza tempo. Ho plasmato il collo superiore come quello di una bottiglia, incidendovi sottili scanalature che scorrono verso il basso. Smaltate di un ricco e traslucido verde, queste linee evocano i motivi ondulati dell’acqua bassa vicino alla riva, catturando la luce come fa il mare in una calma giornata di sole. La metà inferiore racconta una storia diversa. Dopo la prima cottura, ho applicato argilla refrattaria bianca per conferire all’oggetto una superficie quasi sabbiosa—ruvida ma invitante, come le rocce e le scogliere erose che costeggiano le nostre spiagge. La transizione tra lo smalto liscio e lucido e l’argilla grezza rispecchia l’incontro naturale tra terra e mare che ha ispirato questa creazione. Forgiato al tornio con argilla rossa e cotto due volte per garantirne la durevolezza, questo vaso è un richiamo ai ritmi della natura—lenti, cauti e pazienti. Battigia è il mio omaggio alla costa sarda e segna l’inizio della Collezione Marina, una collezione che cattura le storie delle rive della nostra isola.
